The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is one of the sixteen campuses of The University of North Carolina, the birthplace of public higher education in America. Administered by President Erskine Bowles and overseen by The UNC Board of Governors, each campus is headed by its own chancellor and Board of Trustees.

The University of North Carolina Greensboro is classified by The Carnegie Foundation as a Doctoral/Research-Intensive University. The University was established in 1891 and became coeducational in 1963. The 210-acre campus is located 1 mile from the center of Greensboro, a city of 258,671. The Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point Combined Statistical Area has a population of approximately 1,535,926.
